Overview: Adjectives

1. Adjectives agree with nouns in gender (masculine, feminine) and number (singular, plural)

2. To pluralize

  • ends in vowel -> add S
  • ends in consonant -> add ES

3. Masculine singular ends in O, OR -> four forms

e.g. alto, alta, altos, altas
e.g. profesor, profesora, profesores, profesoras

4. Masculine singular ends in something else -> usually two forms

e.g. grande, grandes

5. Modified colors and colors that are things -> one form

e.g. el libro azul marino, la camisa azul marino
e.g. el libro café, las casas café

6. Some adjectives go before the noun.

e.g. Tengo muchos libros.

7. Some adjectives go before or after the noun and change meaning.

e.g. un gran hombre -> a great man
e.g. un hombre grande -> a big man
